The Hilton Head Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering an interest in dance as an art form among Lowcountry residents and visitors alike. In productions featuring Hilton Head Dance School students, the Dance Theatre covers all the expenses not directly related to instruction or rehearsal. These expenses include costumes, sets, rental of the facility, publicity, printing and fees for guest artists and technical staff.

The Hilton Head Dance Theatre (HHDT) is involved with several organizations. In the past the Company members of HHDT have performed with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra. These performances have included Peter and the Wolf, Carnival of the Animals, Frosty the Snowman and variations from The Nutcracker, just to name a few.

The outreach program is made possible by grants through the Beaufort County School District’s arts program. For the past 5 years the Company members have performed a fairy tale ballet for the Hilton Head Elementary School children. This program takes place during one day as over 1,500 public school children, many whom have never seen ballet in their life, will come to one of 4 shows.  

Test ImageDifferent age groups from the Dance School also perform at the Youth Arts Fest. This is a festival celebrating the arts and our youth during a Saturday at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina. Our relationship with the Arts Center was established 11 years ago when the Arts Center first opened its doors.

Another relationship is with Programs for Exceptional People (PEP). PEP is a non-profit organization for children and adults with mental and physical handicaps. For many years the PEP members have been given a block of tickets to the Dance Theatre’s productions at the Arts Center. We are now in the works with PEP to organize a dance program with their members at the Dance Theatre’s studios.

The Children’s Center is a low income day care center on the island and we are in the planning stages with them to provide dance workshops for the children. The Boys and Girls Club of Hilton Head is also invited as our guest to many of our shows. HHDT has been able to provide a few Boys and Girls Club children with dance scholarships to the HH Dance School. One of our former male scholarship recipients has continued on to college and majors in dance. Again, our goal is to bring ballet to everyone on the island and we believe through our relationships with various organizations we are doing just that.
